Connectivity to the NGS EDI Gateway

ChimeNet has supplied a network connection to CMS for eligible customers. The NGS EDI Gateway (a.k.a NHIC, M2, 835 or 5510 Remits) is a Secure FTP server (SFTP). Your FTP software needs to be SFTP capable.

No particular SFTP software is endorsed.  The following test uses the Microsoft Windows built-in FTP client.  Please Note: The Microsoft command-line FTP utility does not support Secure FTP extensions. It also does not support encryption (which is why the Welcome Banner looks garbled.) These steps are simply to test connectivity.

1.) Start a command prompt window.

2.) Start the FTP client software by typing:
FTP

3.) Connect to the NGS EDI server by typing:
OPEN 32.90.117.34 10062

4.) The system will prompt with the following message:
Connected to 32.90.117.34.

The system requires a username and password assigned by National Government Services (NGS). If you do not have a password or it is not accepting your assigned password please contact NGS EDI Help Desk. If you need to change your password during the login process, instructions can be found here.

Note on Network Connectivity: The network for the NGS EDI Gateway is 32.90.0.0/16.  Your IT department should have a route for this network.  If you have any question about this routing please call the ChimeNet Help Desk.

If you have any questions about uploading or downloading files, please contact the NGS EDI Help Desk.
